The Slingman House won Gerry Jones major national architectural awards for its ingenuity, engineering and design accomplishments. The owner estimates the casita sq. footage as 866, which has been added into the home square footage. Home has a new roof, one AC unit of the 3 has been replaced. Also there are $20,000 in plumbing upgrades. Gerry Jones was quoted as saying "no one would buy the lot because architects and engineers told buyers that it was unbuildable without moving boulders at extraordinary excavation cost. I bridged the house over the boulders, the first bridge house in Arizona, moved one small boulder and saved thousands by using the boulders for bearing in lieu of a standard foundation," Jones explains. In a famous incident, Orson Wells and movie director John Huston, started filming party scenes from the sequel to Citizen Kane called "The Other Side of the Wind", but this filming violated the lease agreement and Welles was evicted. The house was a mess with antiques floating in the pool and even a car crashed into the casita. The Slingmans found Orson Welles had left a pair of his giant size 68 boxer shorts and once the home was cleaned up, each year on he anniversary of the eviction, they hoisted Orson Wells undergarment up the flagpole and had a wine toast. This is as Classic as Carefree can be. Featured in worldwide TV, newspaper and radio coverage. Extensive shots of the house are included in the Netflix documentary "They'll Love me When I'm Dead" that tells the entire story of Orson Welles final movie.
